Google Calendar

Google Calendar is one of the best, if not THE best, online organizer of personal and shared information available today.  It's collaborative features and ability to be accessed 24/7on any machine connected to the Internet, or synced to smart phones/slates, make it an almost indispensable program for many people.  The following is a basic tutorial that will walk you through how to use the Calendar effectively and efficiently for both private and professional use:

Where to Start?

  •  Click on the Calendar icon.

Choose your View

  • In the upper right-hand side of the main screen you'll see the 5 different ways you can view your calendars:

Day

Week

Month

4 Days

Agenda

  • You can also print from the view bar.

Adding Events

  • There are two main ways to add an event:

    • The Create Button.

    • Quick Add.

  • You can add additional information or span days by clicking Edit event and choosing the options you wish.

Multiple Calendars

One of the most powerful features of Google Calendar is the ability to have more than one calendar that you are able to see all at once, filter or share.  Make one for your own personal events and another for work.  How about Birthdays?  Each one is even assigned it's own color!

  • To create a calendar, click on the down arrow next to My calendars and choose Create new calendar.

  •  There are several settings that can be made on the screen that opens.

            • Set the calendar name.

            • Choose if and how you want to share the calendar.

            • Create the calendar.

  • You can also add "Interesting calendars" such as US Holidays by clicking the down arrow next to Other calendars

• To change the color of a calendar or hide it from the main view, click on a drop down arrow next to a calendar name.  You can also set sharing options from here!

Syncing with Outlook Calendar

  • Once installed, the program will run - in the Settings window you need to:

    • Enter your Google email address (your login name + @apps.cabarrus.k12.nc.us) ex: r.trump@apps.cabarrus.k12.nc.us

    • Select the sync options you prefer.

    • Set the time interval.

    • Save!

  • Google and Outlook calendar will now sync automatically "behind the scenes!"

Syncing with Smart Phones

  • There are several ways to view your calendar on Blackberry, Android and iP*d / iPhones

    •   The easiest way - just open a Web browser on your phone - the site is optimized for mobile devices and will automatically adjust to the phone:  http://www.google.com/calendar

    •   The Google App is a must have for all iP*d/iPhone devices! http://www.google.com/mobile/iphone/
    •   Google Apps are already installed on an Android! (Android is Google's Operating System)

    •   There are a lot of calendar apps out there for iP*d / iPhone, some good ones are:
