If you haven’t checked it out, the SMART Exchange is an AWESOME website hosted by SMARTTech that contains lessons, Senteo quizzes, templates, images, videos etc. from both SMART and other teachers around the world. You can browse by subject, grade, file type, NC Standards, Common Core and Essential Standards! This is a great starting point for teachers still learning how to build lessons in the Notebook software........there are lessons already finished and ready to use. Seasoned users.....why re-invent the wheel if it's already been done for you? This is a MUST see and can be accessed through the link above, on the Tech Wiki or through the Notebook software itself in the Gallery toolbar.

Here you can download Notebook 11 for your home machine…..all you need is the key to register it (see Trump).

P21 is a national organization that advocates for 21st century readiness for every student. As the United States continues to compete in a global economy that demands innovation, P21 and its members provide tools and resources to help the U.S. education system keep up by fusing the 3Rs and 4Cs (critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration, and creativity and innovation).  Several resources:

Ok, so we all have TONS of usernames / passwords that we have to keep up with, both at work and at home, so what’s the best way to store and find them when we forget one (or two or three)?  A sheet of notebook paper in your desk (which you can never seem to find)?  Written on visual guides (that mysteriously disappear right when you need them)?  Using the same password for everything (BAD IDEA)?

I found this service called Passpack that allows you to store up to 100 usernames / passwords w/ descriptions and is accessible from any web browser.  You sign up for a FREE account, create what is called a Packing Key that you CAN NOT FORGET (or you lose the account) then you’re ready to start adding accounts.  I’m loving it…..I used to use Google Docs and I’d have to login, go to Docs, find the document then scroll through a list of usernames / passwords until I found what I needed.  This is faster and much better organized (you can filter, tag and search)!  Check it out, I think you’ll find it really beneficial…..

The U.S. Library of Congress has just unveiled an enormous new (and FREE!) resource that’s all about the Common Core.  You can do a “Search by Standards” that allows you select your state, grade level and subject for a list of Library of Congress teaching materials aligned to those Standards.  Once you’ve found a lesson plan or primary source set you’d like to use, one click will show you which of your standards that particular item meets.  Lesson Plans!  Themed Resources!  Primary Source Sets!  Presentations & Activities!  Collection Connections!  You DEFINITELY need to find time to check this out…..I think you’ll be glad that you did.

Ever wish you could test your students on their current learning status but all the Senteos are checked out?  What if there are not enough devices for each student in a set?  Poll Everywhere is a great solution for these scenarios…….it works by having the student text answers (Y, N – A, B, C) using a mobile device (cell phone).  It’s BYOD at its best!   Instructions for the students are displayed on-screen along with the questions; you can even embed these polls into a presentation (PowerPoint, Notebook).  Oh yeah, it’s FREE for 1 teacher and 40 students (re-set poll for each class)!

Side note – you may want to be sure that the student has permission just in case they have limited texting packages.  Just a thought.  Shouldn’t be a problem though; almost everything is unlimited texting now (especially with the age of our students) J
